mjf launches new project ‘hothouse’
Mjf hothouse is a new project that gets rid of the traditional written application forms and long-winded grant funding processes that artists frequently endure. We want the artists and bands – and their music to speak for itself, and we want hothouse to open doors to those who might not have the knowledge, time or experience to fill out lengthy application forms. We really want to hear from those artists who are new to – or put off by – applying for opportunities like this. We truly believe that the most well-written application form does not necessarily reflect the artistic ability of the artist!
So, what should successful applicants expect to receive?
- 6 weeks of mentoring from mjf staff and industry professionals.
- Expert guidance on all aspects of music making on how to develop the artists’ ideas and make music that expresses these ideas and reaches people.
- Paid rehearsal time.
- A paid work in progress showcase for an invited audience of industry specialists, other programmers, mentors, festival staff and a few audience members.
We are not expecting the artist to produce a full finished performance of new music, but we may offer them the opportunity to take their work further for future performance at mjf. The project will run twice a year, therefore there will be plenty of opportunities to apply.
To make hothouse as accessible as possible we have kept the application process simple. All artists have to do is submit a 3-5 minute video, that demonstrates enthusiasm and passion for their artistic concept, accompanied by a short form collecting contact details.
