mjf2024 is taking place from Friday 17 May – Sunday 26 May with events across First Street, St Ann’s Church, Band on the Wall, Matt & Phreds, The Carlton Club and Forsyth Music Shop, RNCM, Stoller Hall and The Carlton Club.
mjf volunteers play a crucial and valued role during the festival, often as first point of contact for artists and audiences.

Volunteer roles for mjf2024:
Artist Liaison
- Assisting our artist liaison manager and being a point of contact for artists and stage managers
- Ensuring dressing rooms are adequately stocked with light refreshments and kept tidy
- Helping to gather artist monitoring information and PRS data
Merchandise Managers & Assistants
- Being responsible for receiving/managing artists and mjf merchandise stock (CDs, T-shirts etc)
- Using PDQ machines (training given) to sell to the public from the mjf merchandise table
- Acting as a source of information about the festival
Stage Managers
- Working closely with the artist liaison team and helping artists on and off stage
- Ensuring that the artists’ soundchecks and performances run according to the schedule
- Assisting sound technicians and artists with their stage set up and load off if required
Festival Crew
- Assisting mjf staff and technical crew in the set-up, de-rig and smooth running of mjf2024 events
- Helping to set up and install festival branding, site infrastructure (gazebos, tables, chairs etc), and backline
- Helping artists with unloading/loading of equipment and stage changeovers (heavy lifting may be required)
Festival Representatives
- Meeting and greeting the public and being the face of the festival
- Answering any audience questions and provide insight into mjf2024
- Helping mjf gather audience data for funders and to inform future programming
- Making sure the festival site is kept clean and tidy
Photographers & Videographers
- To capture images and videos of the live music, audience, atmosphere and branding of the event and festival (a brief will be given for each role before the festival)
Social Media Content Creator
- Capturing footage of the live music, audience and atmosphere of the event, specifically for our social media (posts, stories, reels etc.)
- Creating live twitter/X update posts to record the happenings at the festival
- Working within the mjf brand guidelines (training and support will be provided by our Digital Creative Content Maker & Distributor)
Please be aware that roles may vary slightly based on the venues and gigs you’re assigned
What mjf offers volunteers
If you do volunteer for mjf2024, mjf will:
- give you your very own limited edition mjf t-shirt
- provide you with one meal per shift (value dependent on venue)
- pay travel expenses up to £5 per day (with receipt)

Hours may vary dependent on the role but are generally in line with programme timings.
If successful, you’ll be given a volunteer handbook and invited to attend a volunteer briefing session in the week leading up to the festival prior to your first shift (exact date TBC).
