Remember, we’re a contemporary jazz festival and we champion artists playing original work – especially those living and working in the North West of England. Check out our 2017 programme to get a feel for some of the artists who are appearing this year. We were the first festival to pioneer an open artists’ submission system and it still forms the basis of our programme today.
It’s easy to get your music through to us and we listen to it all: make sure you read through the guidelines and then fill in the online form.
Irwin Mitchell mjf originals 2017
This is a unique opportunity on the UK jazz landscape – the chance to devise, rehearse and premiere a major brand new work at mjf, and to have all aspects of the creative process supported financially and logistically by mjf.
The Irwin Mitchell mjf originals commission is aimed at developing the profile of artists living and working in the North West, so this is a top priority when we consider proposals, as well as the quality of the concept.
This year’s winner is Andy Stamatakis-Brown, whose new work, Cottonopolis, will be premiered at mjf on Thursday 3 August in a mystery venue. Previous winners include Neil Yates, John Ellis, Olivia Moore, Anton Hunter and Ben Cottrell.
