Another mjf favourite returns… Hackney Colliery Band’s storming shows are a tongue-in-cheek yet respectful nod to the great tradition  of British brass bands. Inspired by New Orleans marching bands, Balkan beats, hip-hop, sizzling Latin brass, African polyrhythms and high-octane rock, with a few unexpected covers of the likes of Goldie, The Prodigy, Kanye West and even Toto, Hackney Colliery Band bring the UK colliery brass band tradition bang up to date.

One of the greatest live bands we have in this country.” – BBC Radio 2

Namvula graced our stage in 2014 and her irresistibly danceable undulating African grooves and magical presence made her an instant hit with the crowd. We had to invite her back! Fusing the folk and urban traditions of her Zambian homeland with those of her Scottish roots and London’s eclectic music scene, Namvula crosses boundaries with a dancing spirit, transporting you into different worlds, yet staying firmly rooted in African soil.
